Makkah to Taif Ziyarat Taxi

Around 5 hours in total, including sightseeing

Taif sits around 1,700 metres up in the Sarawat mountains, about ninety kilometres from Makkah but a world away in climate. This is a return day trip: up the Al Hada escarpment, time at the sites, and back to your Makkah hotel.

The mountain road

The drive is 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours each way. The Al Hada road climbs the escarpment in a series of tight hairpins with viewpoints looking back over the plain — the most memorable stretch of road most pilgrims see in Saudi Arabia.

Passengers prone to travel sickness should sit forward and eat lightly beforehand. The temperature drops noticeably as you climb; Taif in winter can be genuinely cold by Makkah standards, so take a layer.

What to see in Taif

The usual stops are Masjid Abdullah bin Abbas near the city centre, the rose farms and distilleries that give Taif its reputation for rose water, the Shubra Palace museum, and the fruit and vegetable markets. Al Shafa, higher again to the south, has cooler air and terraced farms.

Taif also carries a heavy history: this is where the Prophet (peace be upon him) was rejected and injured while calling its people to Islam, before the famous supplication that followed. Many pilgrims come as much for that as for the scenery.

How the five hours are used

Roughly three hours driving and two hours on the ground, though your driver will shape it around what you want. If the rose distilleries and Al Shafa both matter to you, ask about a longer trip — five hours is tight for both.

Rose harvest season, roughly April and May, is the best time for the farms. Summer weekends bring heavy traffic from Jeddah and Makkah families escaping the heat.

Practicalities

There is no Ihram involved; this is a Ziyarat and sightseeing trip. Prayer stops happen naturally at the masjids you visit or at service areas on the escarpment.

Take water, a light jacket, and cash for the markets. Families with small children usually prefer a seven-seater for a trip of this length; larger groups take the Hiace or Coaster.

Makkah Hotel to Taif Ziyarat & Return (5 hrs) Taxi — Questions Pilgrims Ask

How long does the Makkah to Taif trip take?

About five hours in total: roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours each way plus time at the sites.

Is the mountain road safe?

It is a well-built modern highway, but it climbs steeply with many bends. Drivers on this route know it well; passengers prone to travel sickness should sit forward.

What can we see in Taif?

Masjid Abdullah bin Abbas, the rose farms and distilleries, Shubra Palace, the markets, and Al Shafa if time allows.

When is the best time to visit?

April and May for the rose harvest, and any time in summer for the cooler air. Take a layer — Taif is much cooler than Makkah.

Can we extend the trip?

Yes. Tell us what you want to include and we will quote a longer version rather than rush the itinerary.
