Makkah Hotel To Madinah Hotel Taxi

Around 4 to 5 hours of driving, plus stops

The move between the two Holy Cities is the longest leg most pilgrims make inside Saudi Arabia. How long does Makkah to Madinah take by taxi?

The distance is about 430 kilometres on Highway 15, the Al-Hijrah road. Pure driving time is roughly four hours; with one or two stops, most pilgrims are on the road for four and a half to five hours.

Departure time matters more than people expect. Leaving Makkah after Fajr or late at night avoids the worst of the city traffic and the heat; leaving between Asr and Maghrib often adds forty minutes just getting clear of the Haram area.

Stops along the way

Drivers normally break the journey once at a rest area with a masjid, toilets and a small restaurant — the stretch after Rabigh has the busiest and best-kept ones. A stop takes fifteen to thirty minutes depending on whether it lines up with a prayer time.

If you want to pray a specific Salah on the road, say so at the start and the driver will plan the stop around it rather than stopping wherever is nearest. Travelling with children or elderly parents usually means two shorter stops instead of one long one.

Pickup from your Makkah hotel

Give us the hotel name and, if you know it, the tower or entrance. In the Central Haram area vehicles cannot always stop directly outside the lobby during busy hours, so the driver will call or message you fifteen minutes ahead and agree a nearby permitted point — usually a short walk with the bellman's trolley.

The rest is straightforward: cases into the boot, and no further handling until Madinah. Hotels in Jabal Omar, Ajyad, Misfalah and Aziziyah are all standard pickups.

Arrival in Madinah

Madinah is calmer to drive into than Makkah. Vehicles reach most hotels around the Haram Central Area directly, though the pedestrian zone immediately around Masjid an-Nabawi is closed to traffic, so hotels on the piazza itself are reached from the nearest ring road entrance.

Non-Muslim drivers cannot enter either Haram city, so all our vehicles on this route are driven by Muslim drivers who know both central areas well.

Taxi, Haramain train or bus?

The Haramain High Speed Railway is fast — around two and a half hours between Makkah and Madinah stations — but it is station to station. You still need transport to Rusayfah station in Makkah, to check in with luggage well before departure, and a second transfer from Madinah station to your hotel. For a family with six cases that is three separate luggage handlings.

Intercity buses are the cheapest option and take six hours or more with multiple stops. Shared taxis split the cost but leave only when full.

A private car is the simplest when you have luggage, want to leave at a specific time such as straight after Fajr, or want a Ziyarat stop at Badr on the way. It is not the cheapest way to travel; it is the one with the fewest moving parts.

Makkah Hotel to Madinah Hotel Taxi — Questions Pilgrims Ask

How long is the taxi journey from Makkah to Madinah?

Around four hours of driving, or four and a half to five hours in total once a rest and prayer stop is included. Traffic leaving Makkah and the number of stops are the main variables.

Can we stop at Badr on the way?

Yes — that is a separate route with its own fare, since it adds roughly two hours. Tell us when booking and we will quote the Badr version of this transfer.

Is one price enough for the whole car?

Yes. The fare covers the vehicle, driver, fuel and tolls for the whole journey regardless of how many seats you use.

How much luggage fits?

A four-seater takes two large cases comfortably. Four or more cases means a seven-seater GMC, Staria or Chevrolet; eight to eleven travellers use the Hiace, larger groups the Coaster.

Can we leave after Fajr or late at night?

Yes. Overnight and post-Fajr departures are common on this route and often the fastest, as the roads out of Makkah are clear.
