Makkah to Masjid Al-Ji'ranah Taxi

Around 1.5 to 2 hours in total

Al-Ji'ranah lies about twenty kilometres north-east of Makkah on the Taif road, and is one of the Miqat points the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to enter Ihram. Pilgrims who want to avoid the crowds at Taneem often come here instead.

Ji'ranah as a Miqat

This is where the Prophet (peace be upon him) assumed Ihram for Umrah on his return from the campaign of Taif, which gives Ji'ranah a standing that Taneem, though closer, does not share in the same way.

The masjid has changing facilities and washrooms and is markedly quieter than Masjid Ayesha, especially in Ramadan. For many pilgrims the extra twenty minutes of driving buys a much calmer start to their Umrah.

Timing the trip

Thirty to forty minutes each way, plus twenty to forty minutes at the masjid — an hour and a half to two hours in total. The road out on the Taif highway is fast and open.

As with any Miqat trip, you can be returned to your hotel or dropped at the Haram to begin Tawaf straight away. Tell the driver at pickup.

Ji'ranah or Taneem?

Taneem is closer and cheaper, and the trip is about an hour shorter. Ji'ranah takes longer but is calmer, and carries the prophetic precedent.

In peak Umrah season, when the Taneem changing rooms have queues out of the door, the extra distance often turns out to be the faster option in practice.

What to bring

Your Ihram, sandals, water and a small bag for valuables. Leave luggage in the vehicle; the driver stays with the car.

If you are combining Ihram with a visit to Hudaibiyah or the Kiswah factory on the same outing, ask us — we can quote a combined trip rather than two separate ones.

Makkah Hotel to Masjid Al-Ji'rranah (with return) Taxi — Questions Pilgrims Ask

How far is Al-Ji'ranah from Makkah?

About twenty kilometres on the Taif road, thirty to forty minutes each way by car.

Is Ji'ranah better than Taneem for Ihram?

Both are valid Miqat points. Ji'ranah is quieter and was used by the Prophet (peace be upon him); Taneem is closer and quicker.

Does the driver wait?

Yes, waiting at the masjid is included, and he will return you to your hotel or drop you at the Haram.

Are there changing facilities?

Yes, the masjid has changing rooms and washrooms, and they are usually far less crowded than at Taneem.

Can we add another site to the trip?

Yes. Hudaibiyah and the Kiswah factory lie in the same general direction — ask us for a combined quote.
